This box elder wooden bowl been turned on a foot-powered pole lathe. This form of lathe was used by the Vikings in the 9th century and continued to be used up until the 1940s. 

Turning with a pole lathe results in fantastic patterns being left in the wood by the specialist tools. 

This box elder bowl came from a tree cut just a few yards from my Madison workshop. The natural warmth of wood makes it a pleasure to eat from. This handcrafted bowl is the perfect size for enjoying soups or cereal from. It has been sealed with food safe linseed oil. Wash by hand with dish soap and hot water. 

This handmade bowl is 7" wide and 2" tall. The wooden bowl holds approximately 15 fl oz (450ml).
