This spalted birch bowl has been turned on a foot-powered pole lathe. This form of lathe was used by the Vikings in the 9th century and continued to be used up until the 1940s. 

Turning with a pole lathe results in fantastic patterns being left in the wood by the specialist tools. 

This wonderful piece of birch wood is full of delightful colours and patterns. The natural warmth of wood makes it a pleasure to eat from. It has been sealed with food safe linseed oil. Wash by hand with dish soap and hot water. 

It's the perfect size for enjoying soups or cereal from. 

The bowl is 7" wide and 2" tall. It holds approximately 12 fl. oz. (350ml).
