This maple wood bowl has been turned on a foot-powered pole lathe. This form of lathe was used by the Vikings in the 9th century and continued to be used up until the 1940s. 

Turning with a pole lathe results in fantastic patterns being left in the wood by the specialist tools. 

This wonderful piece of maple wood can from a residential tree felled in  Fitchburg, WI. This beautifully rustic handmade bowl would look great piled high with fresh vegetables, mashed potatoes or fruit salad. It has been sealed with food safe linseed oil. Wash by hand with dish soap and hot water. 

This handcrafted bowl is 7" wide and 3.5" tall. This maple wood bowl holds approximately 28 fl oz (830ml).
